How we make Elephants

The fours stages of making an elephant in one photo.

The initial glob of glass is shaped and formed into the body of the elephant. Small gestures are pressed into the sides to make the legs

The mouth and the start of the trunk is formed by expert hands

The ears added by another glass blower

After the ears are added, they are remelted to join them to the head seamlessly

With the ears hot enough, now the glass blower can sqeeze the ears flat

The final touches are bending the ears into place before it’s finished and put in the ovens for cooling
